Second Chance
Golf Tournament: An idea, intense brainstorming, firm conviction, several
round of meetings by think tanks, strategizing, and the idea transformed into
a wonderful reality.
March 20, 2004. It was a memorable day as Ritinjali invited professional and
amateur golfers to play golf and 'to use the opportunity to provide others
a second chance at hope'. The Second Chance 2004 Golf Tournament in the aid
of Ritinjali which was played at the Classic Golf Resort (Gurgaon) saw representation
from scores of organizations, which sent across more than a hundred participants
from diverse backgrounds. It was a full house at 7:30 am, much beyond expectations.
A sizeable number who missed out the opportunity kept calling up Ritinjali
with keen interest of becoming an inherent part in its efforts and forth coming
events. The young sarod maestros Aman and Ayan (the Bangash brothers and sons
of the sarod legend Ustad Amjad Ali Khan) brought in melody and glitter with
their magical fingers and presence. And with Mr. Kapur declaring the meet
open with an appeal for joining Ritinjali's cause, the participants took their
positions.
The tournament came to an end by afternoon but the fun did not. The venue
for the evening shifted to Maurya Sheraton where two live bands of youngsters,
prize distribution and dinner awaited the participants and Ritinjali staff,
Members and well-wishers.
Ritinjali extends wholehearted gratitude to the event sponsors: NTPC, Asahi
India Glass Ltd., Hindustan Times, Powergrid, Classic Golf Resort, ITC Welcomegroup.
We also thank several individual donors and organizations that contributed
for our cause and all those who made the event possible.
Film Shoot
on Ritinjali (A report):
"On March 16, 2004 the production unit of Candid Creations at Delhi (a
Mumbai based advertisement and film making agency) took a first hand view
of the possible sites for shoot on March 17. Divender, from the Delhi office,
had contacted me and had asked me a day before for organizing their visits.
I took him around with couple of his assistants to Kusumpur, Ritinjali office,
Vasant Valley School, Moolchand Motors, M.B. Automobiles and Hussain Motors
and introduced them with our resources. I also made them meet the resource
persons with all these sites who had earlier assured me of all possible help
and support. Divender told me that the shoot would only be possible at Moolchand
Motors, Vasant Valley School and UEE Kusumpur. Rest all the locations were
impractical for the said purpose.
The team from Candid Creations (Kiran, Aban, Shamim, Sahil, Sebastin, Vrushali and Gargi) arrived on the morning (1030 hrs) of March 17, 2004 from Mumbai. I informed that all was in place but instead of actors/actresses as had been asked for, it would be Ritinjali staff or volunteers who would do the necessary cast. We went straight to the Moolchand Motors for shoot on the Second Chance where Divender had arranged for the sets and infrastructure. I had requested all our four Second Chance School boys learning motor mechanics to be there. The shoot began at 1200 hrs and was over by 1330 hrs. Mr. R.K. Sharma and Mr. K Sharma (owners of Moolchand Motors) were thanked for all the support they had extended to Ritinjali for the shoot. There was a minor lunch break for the crew after which we went to Kusumpur. The kids, staff and Kailash (from Vikky Kapoor's) had been waiting for us for quite sometime, as the time given to them was 1200 hrs. The team shot on the UEE class, art workshop, poems, karate, etc. Mrs. Trehan and Mrs. Vohrah had also joined us to volunteer themselves for serving lunch to the kids and for any possible help there. The team packed up at around 1630 hrs and we proceeded to Vasant Valley where the final shoot of the day was slated. The shoot took place in the computer room with the Second Chance boys shown learning on the machines. Kiran (the Director of Photography and winner of several Filmfare Awards for Best Photography) and others told me that they were extremely happy with the kind of challenging work that Ritinjali was doing and seemed quite pleased with logistics and arrangements. In the evening I accompanied them to Anand Gram where Mr. Kapur had invited all of them for dinner (The occasion was Mr. Kapur's birthday). All of us returned after a long day at 0130 hrs.
