All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)
Ritinjali also works, in All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The Departments that Ritinjali is working with are: Children’s OPD, Pain and Palliative care, Board Room OPD(where five clinics work at the same time)
Children’s OPD : Ritinjali has helped in the making of the Questionnaire for children suffering from Cancer. Remedial measures are undertaken - by giving extra help in their academics. Subjects covered : Hindi, English, Maths.
Pain & Palliative Care: Ritinjali’s volunteers help in the co-ordination between the doctor and patients. Most of the patients, and their care - giver’s who come to this clinic, are either depressed or aggressive. Ritinjali’s volunteers help in calming them. The appointments given out are quite chaotic. Often patients turn up without appointements. The volunteers help in bringing order. Missing files need to be traced. As also missing medical reports. This requires liasoning with different departments.
Board Room OPD: Although 5 clinics run at the same time in the same chamber, appointments are given in the same register. Volunteers separate the files according to the illness and send the patients to the concerned specialists. Mann the door to prevent the surge of patients. Arrange the files and call the patients in, according to the appointments given. Volunteers work as catalysts to diffuse and calm the aggression in the patients and their care-givers. They identify trouble-markers and calm down the staff, the VIPs and the normal patients. They help in filling up a comprehensive questionnaire, prepared by WHO,for lung cancer patients. This questionnaire also helps the doctor in learning abut the patient’s case history, thus saving a lot of the concerned doctor’s time. They make the patients next appointments and also fill the forms for various medical tests. A lot of bonding has taken place between the doctors, the other staff and Ritinjali’s volunteers. The dedication, and the conscientiousness of the doctors is something to be appreciated.
