NDMC - Avlokan

To bring about qualitative improvement in its schooling a partnership was forged between NDMC and Ritinjali in 2005, aimed to provide a teaching and learning environment, to the students of NDMC schools, that is comparable to the best schools in Delhi

Ritinjali introduced Avlokan - a school appraisal system to identify the strengths of NDMC schools and sharing the best practices identified in all schools thereby rejuvenating the quality of education in these Schools. Through Avlokan Ritinjali helped identify the issues and created a model for monthly school appraisal with a hope to encourage the Heads and teachers of the schools to improve the conditions of learning. During the first phase of the programme, four round of school visit was able to bring about considerable improvement in the schools particularly in the area of hygiene, pupil care, academics, leadership and managements and performance amongst the teaching staff. The success of the first phase of the programme was showcased and a handbook of the best practices identified in NDMC Nursery and Primary schools was disseminated to all concerned.

The second phase of the programme began in December 2006 and the school inspections are continuing. So far, the inspection team has observed tremendous improvement in the area of hygiene. The quality of education has also improved considerably with many children being able to read and write which was not the case during the first phase. Ample amount of teaching aids are being used to benefit children and the teaching staff are becoming more accountable. Children notebooks are checked and marked up to date and every single teacher was observed to plan their lessons and followed accordingly. The overall administration of the schools have also improved and the other support staff are reportedly becoming more cooperative and taking their task seriously.

Ritinjali’s endeavour has clearly impacted all NDMC schools appraised in one aspect or the other, with almost every school demonstrating best practices and tangible improvement.
