Second Chance Golf Tournament 2006

The Jack Nicklaus Designed Classic Golf Resort played host to the third India Trust Second chance golf tournament in aid of Ritinjali on Sunday, February 26 th 2006.The tournament, sponsored by network giants, Hughes Network system, witnessed strong field of 109 players vie for top honors.

The Second Chance Golf Tournament is a unique event, leveraging as it did the medium of golf to successfully raise funds for underprivileged children. This year's edition was a one- day corporate event and was played on an individual stableford format. The entire field comprised of leading personalities, players recommended by sponsors, and corporate honchos. The regard the golfers hold for the Second Chance event was quite evident from the fact that the entire field accumulated at the facility as early as seven in the morning.

Mr. Arun Kapur , Chairman Ritinjali welcomed everybody and spoke about the work that Ritinjali Carries out in various parts of Delhi as well as the country to help the marginalized communities including slum dwellers, jail inmates, grief and poverty stricken individuals and communities, victims of war and natural disasters so that every emerging individual whom we touch, we enable and empower them. He also spoke about the second chance school where we provide Second chance to those who did not get the first chance.

All the participants had a hearty and sumptuous breakfast following which the golfers got down to the task at hand. The tournament too was full of surprises with every participant taking home some or other memory of a day well spent on the golf course. There were a host of prizes on offer catering to the skills of most of the individuals participating, including the ‘Straightest Drive” spot prize. Closest to pin (Spot Prize & Overall) on the and Longest Drive contest in various categories. While it added to the levels of interest and involvement, this in no way took away from the competitive spirit of the tournament.

In the main Event, CDR Pranav PARASHAR beat a field of 108 golfers to the post with 48 stableford points, Mr . Vineesh Kochar was declared the runner up with 44 stableford points on a countback while Mr. Raymond Kanne was the second runner up also with 44 stableford points and Ms. Anuva Saurabh won the special prize in the ladies category with 41 stableford points. Mr. Arun Kapur , Chairman Ritinjali and Mr. Pranav Roach, president, Hughes Network Systems, gave away the prizes to the winners at a pool side lunch area.
