Independence day joyfully celebrated all over Ritinjali .
Ritinjali centres all over, celebrated Independence Day on 15 th august 2004.
At the Learning Centers of Kusumpur Pahari and Nathupur Pahari new flag poles were erected a day before and they weree provided with new flags.
At Kusumpur Pahari the children sang the National Anthem while hoisting the National Flag. A cultural programme followed the hoisting where the girls of the Learning Centre put up a Haryanvi Dance performance. Laddoos were distributed to all children to mark the occasion.
Subsequently, the children were invited by the Vasant Vihar Police Station, to perform the play ‘Hone Ko Hota Hai' once again. A mini bus from the police station took the children to perform the play at the Police Station. At Vasant Vihar Police Station first flag hoisting ceremony was held. There after the children performed the play. Their performance was appreciated and after small refreshment they were taken back to the Learning Centre.
At Nathupur Pahari also the children happily participated in the flag hoisting ceremony. They sang patriotic songs, which they had been practicing for sometime. The children were treated to a sumptuous lunch thereafter.
The boys from Night School, INA Market, were taken on a picnic on 15 th August. The Night School children were picked up from Dilli Haat at 9:30 am . 4 activity centers consisting of Painting & Creative Art, Pottery, Cricket and Basket Ball were organized. The children were divided in 4 batches and they participated accordingly. They were very enthusiastic about the activities they were performing. At 12:00 noon they were shown ‘Spider Man 2' alongwith hot popcorn. After the movie they had lunch and went for Delhi Darshan. Finally at about 6:00pm they were dropped at Dilli Haat.
Ritinjali explores new networks
Miss Anna Catherina from Brazil visited Ritinjali office to explore ways of collaborating with Ritinjali. She is setting up an NGO in Brazil where she would like to sell products made by the inmates of Tihar Jail, Nariniketan and families of Kusumpur Pahari.
She was also taken to Kusumpur Pahari to see the products prepared. At the Learning Centre she was traditionally welcomed with a garland by the children. The various art works like Dia, Gandhi Bags, beautifully knitted clothes etc were shown to her. She was very impressed by the artistic work and appreciated the work of community ladies at the center .
Renovation work at Kusumpur Pahari
Renovation work was carried out at Learning Center at Kusumpur Pahari. The seepage in the roof was cemented. A mirror has also been fixed in the basement where the gym is. Further a few windowpanes are also broken. These would be fixed within a short span of time.
Another boy joins the Ritinjali Shelter home
Second inmate named Raghav has recently joined the Ritinjali Shelter home. The boy was sent by DSW. His mother had expired during his childhood. He was brought up by his grandmother and his father in Delhi . He was about to give his class tenth exam when his father fell ill. Even after visiting a number of doctors and hospitals there was no effective outcome.
Meanwhile he had his class tenth exam beginning from 3 rd March. In the midst of difficulties he gave his exams. Then on the desire of his father Raghav took him and his grandmother back to village at U.P. He then returned Delhi to know that he had got a compartment in Maths.
Meanwhile, his father's health further deteriorated. He left for his village and after a few days lost his father also.
He returned to Delhi and stayed at a teacher's residence and prepared for the compartment. He gave his Maths exam and cleared it.
To study further he started trying for institutions. During this time he came across DSW. DSW further referred Raghav to us. Now he has become a member of Ritinjali Shelter Home.
