Kusumpur Pahari

A Royal Visit

Queen Rania – Al – Abdullah of Jordan visited the Kusumpur Pahari Learning Centre run by Ritinjali on Friday the 10th of March 2006.On her arrival, she was welcomed by Mr. Arun Kapur and introduced to the Ritinjali staff.

The children who were eagerly awaiting her arrival greeted her with a welcome song and the Queen then lit the ceremonial lamp at the entrance. Her Highness proceeded to interact with the children and the teachers at the centre and displayed keen interest in the educational initiatives taken by Ritinjali.

She appreciated the fact that the children in the age group of 4 to 6 years were being given the basic elementary education. She was also gratified to note that children in the older age group of 15 years and above had vocational training as beauticians and tailors to help them earn their living. The older children were more than happy to show off their newly acquired skills to her.

The Queen then planted a sapling and handed over books and CDs prepared by UNICEF. Mr. Kapur presented the Queen with a token of appreciation from Ritinjali. Sweets that were brought from Jordan were distributed to the children at the learning centre.

The Queen was requested to sign in the visitors book just before she left and she wrote – “ Thank you for such a warm welcome. It was a wonderful start to my trip to India . Your centre is an inspiring and happy place as the eager young faces attest. Congratulations.

Long may your excellent work continue.” Mr. Balakrishnan Dang from the Dhyan Foundation visited the Learning Centre at Kusumpur Pahari and so also did Mr. Vivek Ramchandani and Mrs. Sonali Ramchandani form UNICEF. Mrs. Subhadra attended a teachers training programme conducted by the UEE Mission at Sector 7 RK Puram from 14 Feb 06 to 27 Feb 06.

Nathupur Pahari

The children here were made to understand the significance of festivals such as Vasant Panchami, Moharram and Shiv Ratri . Mrs. Vijaya Nagpal a resident of DLF, visited Nathpur Pahari and sang songs for the children. She also taught them a few songs.

The children enjoyed the music session and formed an enthusiastic chorus and sang with gusto.

Dalil Ekta Camp (Vasant Kunj)

Children of levels 1 and 2 at this Camp were taught English, Hindi and Maths and were made aware of the importance of the environment. There has been an increase in the number of students as more parents are interested in sending their children to this centre.

They are hopeful that after a basic education at the centre their children will gain admission in Government Schools.
