Kusumpur Pahari
The children at the learning centre at Kusumpur Pahari participated in the Music and Dance competition organised by the U.E.E Mission at the Government Sarvodaya Vidyalaya. It was a moment of great pride when two of the children from the Second Chance School , David Trikee and Raghav Sonkar were awarded with merit prizes. The children felt rejuvenated by their participation in this event and the experience added a new dimension to their learning process. It also served to underscore the fact that nurturing of their innate talent will imbue them with confidence and facilitate the process of mainstreaming them into the Government schooling system. One of the most important events organised last month was Guru Nanak day to highlight the importance of Guru Nanak's teachings in our day-to-day lives.

Second chance school

Deepavali was celebrated with the traditional puja and the activities at the school helped in a great way to light up the lives of the boys. Two of our boys Izahar and Ratan Roy have successfully completed a year at the school and have been enrolled with the Salam Balak Trust to avail of a whole range of new opportunities. Spoken English classes by Mrs. Anjali Saha found great favour with the boys. A lot of emphasis was given to these classes and the boys were encouraged to use the language to share their experiences and recount their problems. A number of activities like painting, tailoring, computer classes and games are now part of the curriculum to ensure the overall growth of the students.

Avalokan - Gaining Momentum

The appraisal teams that went to several NDMC Schools to identify and reward good teaching practices have completed their task. They have spent many interactive sessions exchanging notes and sharing their experiences at the different schools. It was realised that it was important to continue with spot checks at the various schools and have regular sharing sessions with all the stake holders so that effective methods noticed in a particular school could become the norm in others as well. This initiative would help to raise the level of the teaching-learning process and benefit both teachers and students. Ritinjali would act as a catalyst to motivate schools with good teaching practices to share their expertise with other schools to enhance the overall quality of education.

Drishti – The Rajasthan Project

Ritinjali's venture in Rajasthan has gained ground with the training of the teachers of many villages of Kota district in life skills having been completed. These teachers have been regularly conducting classes in their respective schools which is being monitored and evaluated for their effectiveness by Ritinjali. Sports items and books were distributed in the schools after a meeting with Mr.A S Hada of CFCL.
The construction of toilets in the schools has begun after Ritinjali requested Mr.Kaushal of Sulabh Shauchalaya to help with this initiative.
It has been decided to extend the project to schools in Jhalawar district also and Ritinjali has been meeting the DEO and DIET officials to discuss the training schedule for the teachers of the newly identified schools in the life skills programme. Simultaneously a meeting with CFCL officials was also held to discuss the infrastructure development of the schools of Jhalawar district. There were also discussions with Mr. K L Vijay, Addl. DEO, Kota regarding the new schools to be taken up during the second year of implementation of this project in Kota district and the list of new schools on Jhalawar road has been drawn up.
